Passing / Dribbling / Warm Up

A 1-2 touch drill.

Complexity: simple to moderate

Description:   Emphasizes passing accuracy, timing, and first touch awareness.

Explanation:    Start with 2 lines facing each other 15 yards apart, (10 yard for U8/U10), and 4 cones 4 yards to either side  from the beginning of each line. Player 1 (1) serves the ball to Player 2. Player 2 passes the ball straight back to Player 1 (2) and starts off to the side of the line (3) where Player 1 passes the ball to the now moving Player 2. Again Player 2 passes the ball straight back to Player 1 and continues running toward the cone opposite his/her line to the back of the opposite line. On the return pass from Player 2, Player 1 passes the ball straight across to the next player and starts his/her run to the side (in the diagram Player 1 would go to his/her left) and receives a pass from Player 3, returns the pass and goes to the end of the line. The drill continues as each line alternates passing to the foot of the player in the front of the line until everyone has had a turn.

Start the drill slowly and allow the players to become comfortable with the speed of the drill (1 or 2 times through) and allow for more than 2 touches. Once your players are comfortable with the drill, emphasize using 1 touch passing and moving on to position 4 and 5 before starting the next run.
